Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They're also used to treat conditions such as neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), an overactive bladder and lazy eye. Botox injections may also help prevent chronic migraines.

Botox injections use a toxin called onobotulinumtoxinA to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving. This toxin is produced by the microbe that causes botulism, a type of food poisoning.

Botox was the first drug to use botulinum toxin. Other products now include abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport), rimabotulinumtoxinB (Myobloc) and incobotulinumtoxinA (Xeomin). Each is a little different, particularly when it comes to dosage units, so they aren't interchangeable.

Jeuveau, like BOTOX , uses Jeuveau is an FDA-approved botulinumtoxinA product that is almost identical to Botox. It is a purified botulinum toxin to temporarily relax the small muscle groups that cause dynamic wrinkles. When these compounds are injected into muscle tissue, they block nerve signals so that the brain can no longer instruct treated muscles to move. Both products use the same dosing and produce the sameresults but a European study showed Jeuveau to be effective 1-2 days faster and 4-8% more potent than Botox, which equates to longer duration in some patients. Jeuveau has the same molecular weight as Botox but is manufactured with newer technology which may account for its longer duration. When used appropriately, these products are the safest and most effective treatments for relaxation of facial lines and wrinkles.
